Glaucoma Surgery
There are several surgical approaches for the treatment of glaucoma. These include trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage implant and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) using an iStent or Hydrus stent.
Trabeculectomy
Trabeculectomy is the most commonly performed, gold standard surgical procedure to reduce eye pressure. It is recommended when eye drops and laser have been unsuccessful.”
Glaucoma Drainage Implant
A glaucoma drainage implant is a shunt used to lower your eye pressure. They have traditionally been reserved for patients with severe glaucoma who have failed trabeculectomy surgery.
Minimally-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)
Minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery encompasses new devices that seek to lower eye pressure and is best suited for patients with mild to moderate glaucoma.
